Our travel itinerary in Friuli Venezia Giulia for 8 days of different hikes and a few trips outside the region.

Since I remember the holidays me and my family have always gone far.

For my parents, already at the beginning of February, the great consultation of newspapers and magazines began where to find a beach house to rent.

That time there was no internet, online ads, booking.com and co.. We took the magazines, looked for ads and started dozens of phone calls to find out availability, prices, beds.

Another thing that they inculcated me is “never go to the same place”, or at least, 2 times yes but not every summer in the same location THAT EVER.

There are too many places to go to go to the same place twice.

Me, my sister, my parents and another family with 1 kid used to leave every year together.

With our dinghy overcrowded (which, however, I remember super spacious ..) we went hunting for the most hidden coves, the highest rocks from which to jump and the most interesting points to immerse our divers.

Then I grew up and every week free was filled with trips to Europe. My parents who have always supported me and pushed me to travel as much as possible.

After all this, it is rather funny that I was born practically with flippers on my feet and now I spend all my free time with mountain boots.

In short, for various reasons this summer we did not go away so we organized a holiday in Friuli with a series of trekking that we had already wanted to do for a while and “trips out of town” that made us spend our 11 days of vacation in a big way.

The planning:

DAY 1. Trekking Malga Coot, Bivacco Costantini, infrababa grande pass (return on the same path up to the bivouac) mount Guarda and return to Malga Coot in the Julian Prealps Park.   – YOU CAN FIND ALL THE POST HERE –

DAY 2. Trekking loop in the Canin plateau from the Goriuda fountain to the Marussich bivouac, Gilberti hut and original return with the bus.

DAY 3. Walk on Mount Crostis – there is no post because the weather sucked on the summit and in the photos you can only see fog, on the other hand great lunch at the Chiadinas refuge and a beautiful overview of the peaks, I had never been there and honestly I can’t wait to go back soon!

Really recommended!

DAY 4. Villach for a project – read more here – and afternoon walk to Lake of Fusine in Tarvisio with a trip on the lake aboard the rowing boats of Bar Belvedere. So fun!!!  – read all the post HERE –

DAY 5. Trekking from Passo Monte Croce Carnico to the Marinelli hut passing through the Vallone Cjanevate.

+ night in the alpine hut also with my dog  Giorgino  (at rifugio Marinelli dogs are allowed!).

DAY 6. Wake up at the Marinelli hut after breakfast, walk on the slopes of Mount Coglians, Mount Floriz and return to Monte Croce Carnico.

We stayed 3 days in Paluzza at “Le Marmote” Albergo diffuso and we loved the stay so much!!!

DAY 7. Ring trekking of the Creta of Timau starting from Timau center

DAY 8. Ring trekking Casera Ramaz, Casera Lodin, Lago Zollnersee, Rifugio Fabiani.

We met with a dear couple of friends who live in the Milan area and spent 3 days together, from the mountains to the sea.

DAY  9. Day in Trieste with friends in search of aperitifs with the most beautiful view of the city and fish dinner.

DAY 10. Visit to Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle in Slovenia.

DAY 11. Easy ring trekking to Malga Priu, Val Rauna and Gortani hut where we ate (too much: D).

I admit that at the beginning of the holiday I was a bit disheartened, I like to travel and I had the feeling of wasting 2 weeks of my time, instead I had a lot of fun.

The fact that we have been able  to do many different things, from trekking to a trip to Trieste to a visit to the Caves, from long and tiring walks to very easy and amusing.

So what is a holiday in Friuli seen by a Friulian?

Let’s say that in my opinion it is a fantastic holiday “with some but”.

I did not like having a different treatment because I am not “from the country”, I did not like having the “grandfather” of the owners scream without reason in the middle of the tables to the customers (including us) considering the local “his home” and not a environment dedicated to catering, I did not like the week of August 14.45 to find everything closed in the largest village in the area.

But I liked all the excursions, from the naturalistic point of view we don’t have to envy anyone. I ate very well in all the restaurants and lodges where I have been.. In the structures we had a super welcome and many useful tips, the rooms where we stayed were perfect and the dog has always been welcomed with enthusiasm everywhere.

Personally I think that a tourist after a holiday in Friuli Venezia Giulia would come out satisfied and happy.
