HIKE ON MOUNT CUAR TO DO IN EVERY SEASON | AVASINIS, TRASAGHIS

This post is also available in: Italiano

An easy 4-hour loop trekking from “Cuel di Forchia” (above Avasinis, municipality of Trasaghis) to the top of Mount Cuar, one of the first mountains of the beautiful Carnic Prealps.

^^^ We park at Cuel di Forchia and immediately take the path that starts here, the CAI 815  ^^^

^^^ The first part of the path is all in the woods, perfect even in summer to do with children ^^^

^^^ The path is well signposted and easy to follow  ^^^

^^^ After just one hour and 10 we reach Cuar hut, open only in summer  ^^^

^^^ Just before arriving at the hut there is a nice panoramic point on the right where you can eat or simply look at the view  ^^^

^^^ Behind me and Giorgi you can glimpse the beautiful lake of Cavazzo, mount San Simeone, mount Plauris and many others. ^^^

^^^ While here you can see Mount Piciat and Cima Campanili ^^^

^^^ Now we continue the climb to the hut ^^^

^^^ Here is the beautiful and very large Malga Cuar ^^^

IF YOU ARE LIKING THIS WALK YOU MAY ALSO BE INTERESTED IN THE EXCURSION ON MOUNT CUARNAN ABOVE MONTENARS.

TAKE A LOOK AT THIS LINK.

^^^ If you have children or you are not very trained, you can comfortably get here and go back on the same path ^^^

^^^ We instead continue the walk taking the path that climbs behind Malga Cuar and we head straight to that top up there ^ ^^

^^^ We go up the meadow where cows are usually grazed and climb over the fence ^^^

^^^ Beyond the fence there is the path that leads on one side to Mount Flagjel and on the other to the top of mount Cuar  ^^^

^^^ The ridge of Mount Cuar is crazy!  ^^^

^^^ Can you spot the cross of Mount Flagjel?  ^^^

^^^ And here is part of the view, just below the Val d’Arzino ^^^

^^^ Last stretch a little ugly. Be careful and hold on to trees and rocks with your hands. Because of the many leaves, there is a risk of slipping ^^^

^^^ Because of the haze we see very little but at least the Tagliamento river we can see it ^^^

^^^ Here we are on the top of Mount Cuar ^^^

^^^And here’s Giorgino during his first walk right here on Mount Cuar 3 years ago. But how beautiful was it ???  ^^^

^^^ Look at the view! ^^^

^^^ Yummm!! ^^^

^^^It starts again, we pass the bell (which of course I ring) and we go down taking the CAI 816 ^^^

^^^ Finally we too can enjoy the view of the Friuli plain by going down the path 816 ^^^

^^^ We enter the woods to make the last stretch ^^^

^^^ Be careful when you come out on the road, turn right as indicated by the CAI marker ^^^

^^^ At the second bench be careful, the path starts right from there behind! ^^^

^^^ And here we are finally on the road. Return to the parking lot by going to the left. ^^^

For this Sunday Simone and I were looking for something easy to finish in a few hours and why not, with a great panorama.

The choice fell on Mount Cuar for 2 reasons: the first because at 2.00 pm we had to be in Gemona for a commitment, the second because 3 years ago during this period Giorgino made his first walk with us right on mount Cuar 😀 .

LET’S GO!

We reach the parking lot on the Cuel di Forchia going up from Avasinis (Trasaghis) where we park the car (if you can’t find the Cuel di Forchia buy the tabacco map. Also when you reach Avasinis you will find the signs for Monte Cuar).

We took the CAI 815 path that starts right in front of the parking lot and we begin our hike in the woods around 9.30 in the morning.

To get to Malga Cuar the sign indicates an hour and 10 therefore also suitable for children or people not used to walking.

The path is initially quite tiring but there are many stretches where the ground flattens and which allows you to take a breath.

We go up without meeting anyone immersed in the silence of this beautiful beech forest.

On the ground thousands of leaves muffle our steps while Giorgino digs and sniffs as hard as I can.

We finally get out of the woods and immediately spot Malga Cuar which stands tall and white above us.

Before reaching it we follow a small path that goes to the right and leads to a beautiful panoramic point from which we see the lake of Cavazzo, Mount Plauris, Mount San Simeone and even the Amariana.

If you have children you can go up to here or to the hut and go back.

THE RIDGE OF THE MOUNT CUAR

We quickly pass the hut, open only in summer and find the path behind it.

Let’s start the tiring part.

We leave the path and head up towards the fence and passing the meadow where hundreds of cows graze happily in summer.

We climb over the fence and here is finally the view!

Below us we identify Mount Prat, the Val d’Arzino and the Tagliamento river.

We go to the left towards the top of Mount Cuar along a spectacular path all on the ridge.

Giorgino meets many other little dogs to smell .. it seems that whoever has a dog today has made an appointment on Cuar 😀 .

We do the last 150 meters always following the Cai 815 but paying much more attention. The mountains of leaves deposited on the ground are not useful at all and we risk several times stumbling or falling due to hidden stones.

Holding on to the trees and rocks with our hands we are finally able to conquer the top of Mount Cuar where, in addition to enjoying the view, we enjoy our super sandwiches (Giorgino included).

PLAY THE BELL, NOW IT’S TIME TO GET DOWN!

After the sandwich break wrapped in this 360 degree view, we ring the bell and head downhill along the CAI 816.

Many tend to go uphill on path CAI 816 and downhill on CAI 815. But I think it’s better to do the opposite.

In this way I can enjoy the view over the entire Friuli plain during the descent which is extraordinary.

END

We really went down in record time because the descent from 816 is really direct and rapid.

Here too pay close attention to the leaves that hide the ground.

When you return to the dirt road you have to be careful to find the path that starts again behind the second bench you will meet.

If you do not find it, don’t worry, simply go down the road, lengthening the walk a bit but reaching the same point.

Reached the asphalt road we simply turned left and found our car after 2 hairpin bends.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED WALK TO EVERYBODY

This hike is easy, perfect in any season  with a breathtaking view.

You can also reach only Malga Cuar if you are with kids.

I really recommend this itinerary to everyone!
