INTRO

Saturday afternoon, late spring.

It is finally hot.

Simone and I decide to go for a walk after work and to stretch Giorgino’s paws.

We head towards Ragogna (near San Daniele del Friuli, Udine) in San Pietro and park the car under the ancient castle of Reunia.

I had never been here, although I grew up in a neighboring country, and I am amazed at how large and beautifully restored the castle is.

We decide to visit it later and start the walk along a comfortable road that starts right from the parking lot.

THE WALK ON THE MOUNT OF RAGOGNA BEGINS

Let’s start by saying that following the paths here is very easy and well signposted.

During this walk we will explore one of the great war  thematic itineraries of Friuli.

Here we will visit military posts, cannon pitches and places of Italian entrenchments with explanatory didactic tables in order to learn more about the battles that took place in these areas.

Today we start following the military mule track “las Cenglis”.

It is such a simple walk that one can decide later whether to stop and eat in the only place on the mountain of Ragogna, whether to do the whole ring, whether to go down to Muris and go back or re-enter through the same path of the outward journey.

The slightly uphill walk along the mule track is a pleasure.

It’s covered by vegetation so we don’t feel the sun beating our heads.

Giorgino is a little less happy when we are surrounded by a group of goats.

You must know that Giorgino is a cowardly dog .. and while some animals adore them others terrify him like goats and horses.

The goats are obviously very good, I pet them and take some photos.

It takes only an hour and a quarter to reach the first panoramic point on the Tagliamento river where we find a table with benches to be able to stop and have a snack.

From here we can see the bridges over the Tagliamento river where we usually go for a swim, the city of Venzone, Mount Cjampon and Mount Plauris but also a thousand other peaks.

The view is enchanting.

BREAK IN THE ONLY BAR IN THE MOUNT OF RAGOGNA “AL BIEL FRIUL”

It is hot and we have not brought almost anything so we decide to stop and drink a coke.

I didn’t know there was a bar / restaurant here and it looks pretty run down but a huge sign outside says “OPEN” and we go inside.

We find this very kind girl who, in addition to giving us a drink, brings us a bowl of water to Giorgi without our having asked him to.

Really very kind!

Regenerated and happy we start again along the path and we arrive at the church of  San Giovanni in Monte and behind her yet another enchanting panorama.

We go down and reach the other panoramic point with benches and tables.

From here it is even better.

YOU COME BACK THROUGH PATH CAI 813

Well we go down again and reach the road in front of the traveler’s monument.

We decide to take the CAI 813 path trying to get a little closer to the village of San Pietro and then reach the car under the castle.

We do a stretch of walk in the woods completely surrounded by vegetation, It was wonderful.

In half an hour we reach the bar at the bridge in the center of the village and we reach the car.

DO YOU WANT NOT TO VISIT THE ANCIENT CASTLE OF REUNIA( OR RAGOGNA) !?

I decide to go up to the castle.

During the climb to the castle it seems to be in a movie.

Everything is so beautiful and well kept, you can just immerse yourself in the exploration of this place dated 500.

After passing the church we go up to the level of the castle where, in addition to the walls, there is a view of the river and the surrounding lands.

From here we understand very well the strategic importance that this castle has assumed in the past. You can also appreciate the beauty of the walls overlooking the river and wander on the panoramic terrace in front of the main body of the castle.

How nice this place is!!

Only a glass of wine is missing!

END

After wandering around the walls for a while we decided to return home not before going to Tabine for a spritz (if you have never been there, in Villuzza di San Daniele, go down to Tabine where you can swim in the Tagliamento river and drink an aperitif at the kiosk. Super recommended in summer!).
