PARTENZA DAL CENTRO DI FORNI DI SOPRA

We park in the square and we follow via Varmost and via Stalas until we find the beginning of the path  “The Ring of Forni”.

There is not much snow so we leave without wearing snowshoes that are beautiful hooked to our backpacks.  After not even 5 minutes of walking in the woods we have to go over the ski slope and go up a little bit.

I do not tell you the faces of Giorgino, our big dog, seeing the skiers whiz: D

We continue our walk always hoping that it will become a snowshoe hike.

We pass beautiful houses, renovated cabins, streams and wooden bridges.
On our left we are accompanied along the path by majestic peaks such as Mount Cimacuta, the peaks of Lavinal and the summits Urtisiel east and west that we could see closely making the ring Paccherini-Truoi dai Sclops 2 years ago.
You can also see the Torrione and the top of the Pecoli and the Crodon di Giaf that make me think about the summer trekking we could do.

After passing the last huts we start the only climb of this ring towards Somaplana at 1202 m.

Here we find thousands of fallen trees with the fury of the wind that hit various areas of Friuli this fall.
The path is usable the same but you can not notice the destruction that there was and the amount of trees on the ground.

With a bit of effort we make these 150 meters in altitude and finally reach an area full of fresh snow.
Giorgino starts running and jumping in the snow like crazy.

We take advantage of a bench to eat, warm up a bit with hot tea and put on snowshoes.

Snowshoeing up to the Alpine colony Oda, now unused and from there we begin the return.
We go down to the state road and cross it running (always with snowshoes :,D) and continue to follow the Forni ring markers.

Here the “troubles” begin.

LOST US ?!

After the locality Nuoitas we can no longer find the counters that should lead us to cross the river Tagliamento.
We are looking everywhere but we do not really understand where we have to go.
The main road is next to us therefore, we do not worry about it at all, but it bothers us having to take off the snowshoes and take a piece of walking on the road.

So we decide to overcome the river.

We cross the Tagliamento river and go back to the other side.
Here we arrive at the Nuoitas Hotel where we finally find the trail signs that … make us re-cross the river!
Today is like this!

We reach the cross-country track where obviously you can not snowshoe but today because of the little snow the track is closed and therefore, exceptionally, we use it.
In case the cross-country track is open, you need to hike off the track.

We return at 4 p.m. quite tired.
We only think about getting back in the car and rushing out for a beer at the Erba d’Erba Craft Brewery which is located right in the Forni di Sopra.

Here the beer is really delicious.
You can not stop and you can also buy bottles to take home.

END

Apart from the time when we did not find the marker the walk / snowshoe went very well.

This itinerary allows, without major gradients, to take an excursion through the woods, passing beautiful small villages of huts, meadows full of snow, and enjoy the exceptional views that the Friulian Dolomites can give.

INFO:

Departure: Square in the locality of Vico, Forni di Sopra

Arrivo: it is a ring, then you return to the same point from which you start following the Forni ring. It is possible to “cut” the excursion and make it shorter in many points.

Duration: 4 hours

Difficulty: Medium

Suitable for: all

useful info: The tour we have done is a little long but the beauty of the ring is that you can cut the trek at many points and quickly re-enter along the main road. The ring in winter is feasible with snowshoes of course if there is enough snow. I advise you to bring the snowshoes with you in case you find points with fresh snow. Be careful not to snow on the cross-country trail!
