In Friuli Venezia Giulia you can run through the woods of Tarvisio driving a sled pulled by dogs. An exciting experience to be tried.

Thursday was an unforgettable day for me.

All now know my love for animals and especially for dogs, so when I was offered to go sled dog racing I could not believe it!

SLEDDOG EXPERIENCE

We arrive very early at the International School Mushing of Fusine in Valromana (Tarvisio – Friuli).

Ararad and Monica, the founders and teachers of the school, as well as champions of this discipline, welcome us immediately illustrating in military style how to behave and not with sled dogs.

While their helpers bring the dogs on the track and decide how many and which dogs to assign to each of us, Ararad tells us who he is and what incredible achievements he has made, starting from the heart of Alaska to Canada, the French Alps, Austria and obviously Tarvisio.

Mushing means conductor and in fact today we will lead the sled pulled by dogs but, as we are well explained, we should help the dogs all along the path moving harmoniously with the sled, pushing up as if we were using a scooter and encouraging dogs at the right time.

INSTRUCTIONS

At the end of all the instructions I was a bit scared, I was afraid of not remembering everything and also I was leaving first in front of everyone.
This means that if you overturn (yes, you can) you have to start running chasing dogs .. and the sled!

Dogs do not stop and you have to try to reach them as fast as possible.

Help!

But let’s think positive!

The sleds are anchored to the snow. Monica tells me that now she will take off the anchor and I have to stay with all 2 feet on the brake if not the dogs start running.

I point with all my kilos on that iron platform and tell the dogs to stay calm.
The first 2, those in front, are super excited, pull and bark while the behind seems to me does not have much desire to do much .. She is sitting quietly in the snow in complete relaxation.

GO! GO! GO!

Scream Monica.

With the feet step from the brake to the skate and in a second I get catapulted in the woods with these 3 siberian husky who pull to more than they can.

I focus on the things I have to do, the first corner to the right is coming.

I hold the left leg straight and bend the right, throwing all the weight inward of the curve “Damn like I am aerodynamic!”.

I start to relax and enjoy the ride, I pass 2 more curves with some thrust in the ascent  and here … the jumps!

Ararad to make the journey more exciting has thought well to create some hopping along the path that, of course, dogs take at full speed.

I hold myself even more firmly praying to the Lord.
Ok, this is gone guys too!

A BEAUTIFUL EXPERIENCE

I really liked this experience, even if at first I thought it was very complicated it is not at all, in fact even children can drive sledges at the Tarvisio Mushing School.

I saw the dogs having fun like crazy to run in the woods, as also my Giorgino loves to do.

I have seen 2 instructors who treat dogs as if they were their children.

And dogs all to cuddle at the end of the race.

I felt part of my small man-dog team and I admit it, I would do it again!

So .. Hurrah the sled dog especially made in FVG!
