TREKKING IN THE NORTH-EAST OF ITALY: THE BORDAGLIA ALPINE LAKE

This post is also available in: Italiano

It is September 3rd and temperatures have dropped suddenly. During the night the first snow flakes came down and the tallest mountains were whitewashed. A beautiful fortune for the first walk of September.

Trekking in Friuli Venezia Giulia – Ring of the Bordaglia Alpine Lake

WHEN:

September, 2017

WHAT:

On September 3, Me, Simon and Giorgi, went for an easy walk close to Forni Avoltri, more precisely starting from the “Goccia di Carnia” plant in Pierabech.

Starting from the assumption that I thought it was still summer and instead the night before it had snowed, at 9.30 I finally got out of bed, put a pair of leggins at random (note) and leave.

Although time did not promise anything good, backpack on, camel bak loaded and obviously our jolly friend Giorgino we took the path 142 and start walking.

Our forecast of five hours was more or less correct even if we do not count because we take lots of breaks type: photo – video – other photos – me a picture – we eat something? -Giorgi is thirsty-oh no cows! Escape!!! – photo ?!

In short, we take our time.

Many times we make the mistake of trusting the distant memories of Simon, who has already faced the walk in the past. Usually they are wrong and we climb miles when “You should not be very steep” or infinite trails “But it seemed to me that the cross was closer …” Well, maybe we are not very useful eh !?

But let’s go back to us and talk about the Ring of Bordaglia Lake!

It is an easy walk to the old cheese farm. From here the famous path that “must” be easy starts to become steeper until reaching the old Casera Bordaglia and here is the first sight on Lake Bordaglia.

All around you you can see the whitewashed Mount Volaia, Mount Vas and Mount Navagiust and begin to descend to the basin that houses one of the nicest lakes in the northeast, Lake Bordaglia.

Get down to the lake with the mountains all around you gives you a nice energy. Although it is a very well known location, probably for the bad weather but that day we were just us. We stretch our pail by the lake, pull out our highlight of the day – Simon’s sandwiches – and begin to dine.

The menu provided a mega homemade cereal sandwich (by me), stuffed with grilled zucchini, creamy cheese and dried tomatoes (stuffed by Simon). Biscuits for Giorgino who obviously ignores to eat our sandwich and desserts. Stunning views included.

Far from prying eyes I say “Let’s make a selfie !!”

Attempt 1: I support the camera to the rock, crush the button, I stay blocked behind the rock. Photo: Simo laughs alone.

Attempt 2: I understand how to get out of where I got masked, crushed, went to go to the picture, Giorgi comes from the center of the lake and pulls the water on the camera. Result: photo with drop.

Well, let’s go!

Climb up to the Crete of Bordaglia where the view is even more outstanding and continue along the scree towards Sella Sissanis. From this point on, besides the spectacular view and the difficulty of the trail, you will go to the car from rivers, waterfalls and streams that start from the source where the famous water “Goccia di Carnia” comes from.

END:

A super-recommended, easy and enjoyable hike. Views on the Volaia Mountains and Crete of Bordaglia are enchanting, perhaps with cloudy clouds even more. When you come back you can stop at one of my favorite bars at Fior di Farina in Ovaro. Delicious desserts !!

INFO:

Walk is long but also suitable for children. Always wear a jacket because it is always cold in that area. There are many fountains to drink and it is well reported. Enjoy your trek!
