If you have never been in Texas this post will surely make you in the mood to go and learn about one of the most beautiful cities in the deep south of the USA.
There are 5 things you can not ignore when you visit Austin: SO.CO the district with bars and vintage shops, the state capitol, the 6th street with its nightlife, the murals throughout the city and the famous ghost cities.
SO.CO DISTRICT E SECOND HAND SHOPS
If you are fans like me to flea markets, junk shops, vintage clothes and second-hand you should definitely hang out in this area. I was so blinded by the shopping that I did not have a picture … that you can make it clear that are interesting shops there!
Plaques, watches, brooches, jackets, jeans, t-shirt, gifts …. you can find just about anything and the owner are really adorable.
This area is perfect for those who like to hunt for treasure!
VINTAGE JUNK FOOD WITH STYLE
One of the most beautiful things I’ve seen in Austin are these bars or caravans in the 60′ style fully refurbished and used for the Street Food.
Here you could buy crepes, cupcakes, burgers, fries, beers and more.
Every year this area is becoming increasingly rich in new elements, in fact when I went back after 2 years there were other caravans and beautiful track always in vintage style.
Perhaps for an American does not be strange, but for a European order the fried chicken directly from a truck out from the 70 is extremely cool!
Austin has a quantity of bars to make your head spin, where you can find just about anything. I personally have gone a bit at random and I was fine everywhere, but if you want to jump back in time you go on South Congress Avenue. You do not be disappointed!
You will be impressed by this city for as, the different elements marry well together, creating a perfect combination of modern and old.
So take a walk along the Colorado River, visit the State Capitol and its inner rooms, take a stroll in the 6th street during the day and look for the Victorian-style buildings, buy a shirt that says “everything is bigger in Texas” , eat a cupcake with a “LATTTEEE” or taste the typical beers here are outstanding!
So enjoy every moment because Austin be cherished.
Prepare your camera because Austin is filled with great graffiti!
Do you want to do a photo idiot (like mine above) in front of the statue of liberty, turned into a cactus in bloom?
Yes, sure you want to …
This market, so ‘like many others, you may encounter going to the city of San Marco. They are usually on the roadside and truly sell everything.
Perfect for those looking for bargains or oddities.
COWBOY GHOST CITY
An old Cowboys city rebuilt in every detail, the little church that seemed to me so much that of “the House on the Prairie”, the barrels, the saloons, mail etc ..
If you have the opportunity to move with a car I recommend to go and see, the entrance is free and is in the middle of a beautiful park.
You can be found here: Jack Glover’s cowboy museum – 333 Wayside Drive, Wimberley, TX 78676.
6TH STREET BY NIGHT: PEOPLE, LIVE BANDS AND PARTIES EVERYWHERE
Well let’s say that the nightlife is truly king here in Austin.
I’ve never seen so many bars, people, live music band in such a close space.
There really is something for all tastes. The party is assured but be careful not to create problems because here bouncers and police do not go much for the subtle and not outputs with a drink from the bar. You are not in Italy!
In Austin I loved everything, the very kind people, warm and curious, always ready to have a chat and to help you in any way (for example, if they saw me with a map asking me where I was going to explain the faster street or the guy of the front desk gave me a ride to go and buy a transformer, fantastic everyone).
I loved the skyscrapers, Colorado at sunset and the old Victorian buildings scattered around the city. I loved the barbecue, roasted marshmallows on the fire, the confusion of the 6th, breweries rooftop with spectacular and fast food long the way. I loved every cupcake, every burger and every dish tex-mex that I could eat.
I tried to take advantage of every free moment from work to enjoy this city full of life, full of events and bizarre attractions. I never imagined that Texas had so ‘much to offer and I’m sure it will not be the last time I will go’ here.
